saturday centus ~ The Fire

Saturday Centus ... so I'm a few days late ... I am once again playing along with Jenny's Saturday Centus ... just click on the button at the bottom to read other entries ... you know the drill by now ... Jenny gives us a prompt to incorporate in our story of less than 100 words. Jenny's prompt is in bold

I found this one tough ... I knew exactly where i wanted to go with it, but in my mind it was a whole chapter ... paring it down to under 100 was really tough for me. Thanks for hanging in a reading my little take on the prompt

The white-bearded fat man rolled through the church doors red faced from both exertion and the cold of a white winter. Snow falls from his great coats as he bustles an armful of firewood to the woodburning stove at the front of the church. Slowly he bends down on one knee and opens the iron gate on the side of the stove … he patiently stacks kindling and wood and carefully sets flame to it all. For him these are the best moments at church, before the preaching and the singing, there is the silence, the quiet, for peaceful meditation in the warmth of the growing fire.

This was lovely. I could see the man bringing in the firewood and lighting the fire. It must be grand to be in the church by himself for a moment. Great Centus.

Very reflective. Sort of like a mom's quiet time before the kids all get up! I loved this!

Just a thought. It seems that you have more to say about this white-bearded man. Who is he? Maybe you can write a longer text. A short story or novella?
Best wishes,
