Red Rover Red Rover ...

... I call Jenny over ....

okay, admit it ... this game was tough ... really tough ...and it was never the easiest schoolyard game for me to play ... and being the tiniest kid in the school yard didn't help much either. But I think it was on the cold and wet gravel field that was our recess playground that i learned a lot about inner strength and determination. Wee tiny me would take stock of the players on the opposite side ... would look for flinching fingers, cold hands, the weak link ... and when called ... would run, full throttle, short little legs pumping as fast they could ... and finally leap onto the joined hands.... crashing through ... landing on the gravel in a heap, knees cut and bloodied from the fall into the gravel ... none of it mattering as long as i, the tiniest kid, could break through ... yup, this was all about guts, determination and the will to succeed ...

geez, and here i thought i was just going to post pictures for Jenny's summer school meme ... i guess that's why i enjoy blogging ... i just let my mind wander and before i know it, a bit of me is spilling across the www universe.

and now, pictures ... some of them were shot just a day or two ago, others years and years ago ... but they are all some of my fav "red" shots.

little me in red

red tulips ... one of my favourites

my red nano, a gift from my daughter ... its engraved with something special on the back!

Honey ... in her red raincoat

Hayley, in a red art installation

Hayley, again ... in red ... with red graffiti

a wet red railing

mmm, fresh raspberries ... another fave!

red lilies ... how cool fiery hot is that???

This post was brought to you by the colour RED and Jenny Matlock's Rainbow Summer School meme. Make sure you visit other meme participants ... i can guarantee you will enjoy it!

red foliage ... so many reds, so many shades of red ...

You came up with a good selection of red photos. I actually googled Red Rover to see if I could come up with smething about the game, but didn't find anything I could use. I remember playing it too, but the game I hated was dodge ball.

Red Rover was my favorite playground game. We didn't play it nearly enough for my taste. What great heart you had to break through the stronger hands.

I remember Red Rover. There were a lot of bruises and hurt arms on my end. Being the smallest meant I was the one they tried to break through.

Hi! My first comment is to translate the Chinese comment that preceded mine. And it says:

A person's value, should look that he has contributed anything, but was not he has obtained anything.

It's my new duty to translate all the Chinese comments I see from now on.

Thank you so much for bringing back to Memory Lane to remember Red Rover!!!! I haven't thought of it in decades! What a great post!

Hmm, oddly enough, I've never played Red Rover when I was a kid. I've seen it in movies and on tv so I have an idea of how it is played...

You are so adorable in that picture :)

I love your selection of red in the photos. It's so eye-catching :)

I LOVED red rover. And I was a tiny, scrawny kid. According to my mom's records, I was 38 pounds on the first day of first grade. I was great at red rover though! I almost always broke through. I guess my bones must have hurt the other kids!

The red lilies are absolutely beautiful. I must say though, I really enjoyed the red rover story. It reminded me a lot of vacation Bible school. Yep, that's where we played red rover.

And I loved the Red Rover thing!

Isn't it cool what pops into your head when you just write? That game used to scare me...lots of big bully boys!
